Reimagining Family Strengthening Month: Building Brighter Futures Together
April is Family Strengthening Month: a special time to celebrate the love, laughter, and resilience that make families thrive. At Open Doors Utah, we believe strong families are the heart of strong communities, and one of the ways we support them is through our joyful, nurturing space: the Imagination Station Nursery.
Imagination Station: A Fun and Safe Place for Kids
More than just a weekly drop-off, Imagination Station is a warm and welcoming haven where children can play, grow, and imagine—all while giving parents a well-deserved moment to breathe. Here's why it's become such an important part of family life for many in our community:
Safe, Joyful Play for Kids
Our nursery is designed to be a fun, secure environment where kids can explore, make friends, and build important social skills through play. It’s a place where imaginations run wild and little hearts shine bright.
Mental Health Breaks for Parents
We see you, parents! Everyone needs a little “me time,” and we’re here to help you get it. Whether you use those three hours to rest, run errands, or simply take a moment to recharge, we know that caring for yourself helps you care even better for your family.
A Space for Exploration
Children benefit from experiencing new environments, and Imagination Station gives them the chance to learn and grow in fresh, exciting ways. It’s a small shift that can make a big
difference.
Best of all? It’s completely free. We serve children from ages 0 to 11, offering one 3-hour block of time each week. Ready to get started? Call us at 801-773-0712 or visit opendoorsutah.org/imagination-station to learn more!
Simple Ways to Celebrate Family Strengthening Month at Home
Building stronger families doesn’t have to be complicated—sometimes, it’s the little things that bring us closer together. Try out a few of these fun and meaningful activities with your loved ones this month:
Cook Something Special Together
Pick a favorite recipe (or make up a new one!) and create it as a family. Cooking together opens the door to teamwork, communication, and a lot of laughs.
Take a Nature Walk
Head outside and explore your neighborhood or a nearby trail. Encourage everyone to point out something beautiful—whether it’s a flower, a cloud, or a cool bug!
Get Your Game On
Games like “Simon Says” or “Red Light, Green Light” are more than just silly fun—they’re great for building listening skills, cooperation, and family memories.
Create Together
Grab some crayons, scissors, or glue and dive into a hands-on project. One easy idea? Trace each family member’s hand and turn it into a colorful family tree!
No matter how you choose to celebrate, Family Strengthening Month is all about showing up for each other, cherishing the little moments, and building the kind of supportive, loving environment where everyone can thrive.
At Open Doors, we’re here to walk alongside you—cheering you on every step of the way. You are able!
